1. Start a New Project

Open DaVinci Resolve, and create a New Project. Name it something like:

➔ Vertical Video Template

2. Set the Timeline Settings

Go to File → Project Settings (or click the little gear ⚙️ at the bottom right).
Under Master Settings:
- Timeline Resolution: Set to 1080 x 1920
- Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
- Timeline Frame Rate: Choose your normal speed (example: 30 fps for TikTok/Reels/Shorts)

3. Optional — Add a Starter Timeline

Press Shift + Cmd + N (Mac) or Shift + Ctrl + N (Windows) to create a new timeline.
Name it something like: Vertical Timeline.
Confirm it’s set to 1080×1920.

4. Save the Project as a Template

Go to File → Save Project As…
Save it somewhere easy to find (I suggest a folder like Templates on your Desktop or Drive).

🚀 How to Use It Every Time

Whenever you want to start a new vertical video:

Open your Vertical Video Template.
Immediately do “File → Save Project As…” and give it a new project name (so you don’t overwrite the original template).
Start editing!

🧠 Bonus Pro Tip: Create Timeline Presets

If you want to go even faster:

Inside the Project Settings → Presets tab, you can save the vertical resolution and settings as a custom preset.
Then, whenever you create a new timeline, you can pick it with one click.
