📦 Step-by-Step: Clear iCloud Messages Storage
✅ 1. Review and Delete Large Attachments
On iPhone/iPad:
- Go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > Messages.
- Tap Top Conversations, Photos, or Videos to see what’s using the most space.
- Tap items > Edit > Select > Delete.
Or manually:
- Open the Messages app.
- Tap a conversation.
- Tap the contact’s name at the top > Tap Info.
- Scroll down to Photos, Videos, or Attachments.
- Long press to delete unneeded items.
✅ 2. Enable Auto-Delete Old Messages
- Go to Settings > Messages.
- Scroll to Message History > Tap Keep Messages.
- Choose 30 Days or 1 Year instead of “Forever.”
This will automatically delete older messages and attachments from iCloud and your device.
✅ 3. Turn Off iCloud for Messages (Optional)
If you don’t need iMessages synced across devices:
- Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Show All under “Apps Using iCloud.”
- Tap Messages.
- Toggle off Sync this iPhone/iPad.
- Choose to keep or delete local messages on the device.
⚠️ Note: Turning this off stops syncing between devices, but doesn’t immediately delete what’s in iCloud unless you choose to.
