Making GIFs in Photoshop is fun and pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a GIF in Photoshop—whether you’re working with video clips or still images.

🔁 Option 1: Make a GIF from a Video

Open the video file
File > Import > Video Frames to Layers…
- Choose a short segment or limit to every n frame to keep it lightweight.
Adjust the settings
- In the popup: choose “Selected Range Only” if you want a section.
- Check “Make Frame Animation.”
Open the Timeline
Window > Timeline
- If it doesn’t show automatically, enable it here.
Preview your GIF
- Press play to preview it in the timeline. Adjust frame timing if needed (click the little arrow under each frame).
Loop options
- Under the timeline, set the repeat option to Forever (important!).
Export your GIF
File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)…
- Choose GIF, set colors (256 max), and tweak image size/quality to reduce file size.

Load images into layers
File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack…
- Or open all images and copy/paste them into one document as layers.
Open Timeline
