1. Start a New Project
Open DaVinci Resolve and create a new project.
2. Change the Timeline Resolution to Vertical
- Go to File → Project Settings (or click the gear icon in the bottom right).
- Under Master Settings, find Timeline Resolution.
- Set it manually to something vertical, like:
- 1080 x 1920 (for 9:16, Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts)
- Also make sure Pixel Aspect Ratio is Square.

3. Import Your Footage
Drag your videos into the project.
If they are horizontal (16:9), you’ll need to reframe them:

5. Edit Normally
Now edit as usual — cuts, transitions, color grading, effects, etc.
6. Export for Vertical Platforms
- Go to Deliver page.
- In Render Settings:
- Format: MP4 or MOV
- Codec: H.264 (great for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube)
- Resolution: 1080 x 1920 (keep it vertical)
- Frame Rate: Match your timeline (usually 24, 30, or 60 fps)
Hit Add to Render Queue and Render All!
