To switch your conversations from SMS back to iMessage on your iPhone, follow these steps:
✅ 1. Check if iMessage is enabled
- Go to Settings > Messages.
- Make sure iMessage is turned on.
✅ 2. Ensure the Recipient Uses iMessage
- iMessage only works if both you and the other person have iPhones (or Apple devices with iMessage enabled)
- Their phone number or Apple ID must be registered with iMessage.
✅ 3. Delete the SMS Thread (Optional)
Sometimes a conversation gets stuck in SMS mode. You can:
- Delete the SMS conversation.
- Start a new message to the same contact.
- If iMessage is working, the text box will say “iMessage” (not “Text Message”) and the messages will appear in blue, not green.
✅ 4. Check Send/Receive Settings
- Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
- Ensure your Apple ID, phone number, and email are checked under “You can receive iMessages to and reply from.”
✅ 5. Check Internet Connection
- iMessage requires Wi-Fi or cellular data
- If you’re offline, messages default to SMS (green)
✅ 6. Sign Out and Back Into Apple ID (if needed)
- Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
- Tap your Apple ID at the bottom and choose Sign Out.
- Sign back in with your Apple ID.
